About Us

TanzSolar Ltd. is a nonprofit Tanzanian company established in January 2008 for the purpose of improving the quality of life in the rural communities of Tanzania through the introduction of sustainable technologies and modern equipment including but not limited to renewable energy systems.
Objectives include;
- Support of local delivery systems for renewable technologies including electricity, lighting, refrigeration, medical equipment and water pumping.
- Development of and assistance with training programs to support and promote the use of sustainable technologies,
- Study and reporting on the effectiveness of these sustainable technology programs.
- Implementation of financing mechanisms to enable the purchase and use of the equipment.
TanzSolar board members include Marianne Walpert, Godson Nyange and Delphinous Costa. Ms. Walpert is both a board member and executive director. She brings over 20 years of experience in management and technical expertise through her work in the photovoltaic industry since 1984. Mr. Nyange is on the board of directors. He is a practicing lawyer in Dar es Salaam and has been instrumental in getting the nonprofit corporation started. Mr. Costa joined the board of directors in January 2009. He brings many years of business management experience working with several corporations in Tanzania. All board members are committed to the goals of the organization.

Partners
TanzSolar is partnering with other companies and organizations in Tanzania to further the goals of the organization. In some cases we have formed a public-private partnership where we are supporting the activities of profit-making companies in an effort to create a sustainable solar industry. These companies are contracted to market and sell the products identified by TanzSolar at fair market prices. Our first such partner is Jua Ltd. in Musoma.TanzSolar is partnering with educational institutions to develop solar education programs to expand the technical knowledge base in renewable energy technology and current technology.
TanzSolar is partnering with Local government organizations in an effort to support the overall objectives of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
TanzSolar is partnering with COSTECH to support the research directives in rural electrification and renewable energy in Tanzania. COSTEK has officially recognized TanzSolar’s first village program as a Solar Test Village.
